CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE TIPS FOR JEWELRY

It's important to note that there are differences in how you should care for each type of metal due to their unique properties. At the same time both silver and gold jewelry can benefit from some similar cleaning methods. Here are 5 easy tips for cleaning your silver and gold jewelry with the products you most certainly find in every home:

  1. Mild Soap and Water: Both silver and gold can be cleaned with a gentle mixture of mild soap or dish soap and warm water. This method helps remove dirt and oils without causing damage to either metal.

  2. Soft Brushes: Soft-bristle brushes, like toothbrushes, can be used to gently scrub both silver and gold jewelry to remove dirt from intricate areas.

  3. Baking Soda Paste: Create a paste with baking soda and water, apply it to your gold jewelry, and gently rub with a soft cloth or toothbrush. Rinse and pat dry.

  4. Toothpaste: Use a damp soft cloth or brush and a small amount of toothpaste to clean your jewelry.

  5. Folium and hot water: Wrap your silver or gold jewelry in a piece of folium and put it into hot water for 5 minutes.

NB! Be especially careful when using baking soda or toothpaste: although very mild, these are still abrasive means of cleaning, and aggressive cleaning can scratch or damage the jewelry.

Storage: Both silver and gold should be stored in a dry, cool place to prevent exposure to moisture and humidity.

💡Believe it or not, wearing your silver jewelry regularly can help prevent tarnish. The natural oils in your skin can create a protective barrier against oxidation.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
WHITE GOLD AND PLATINUM?

White gold and platinum are both popular choices for jewelry, particularly for engagement and wedding rings. While they may appear similar at first glance due to their silvery-white color, there are significant differences between these two metals. Here are the key distinctions:

White Gold:

Made by mixing pure gold with white metals.

It's coated with rhodium to make it look white and protect it.

Can have a slightly warmer tone.

Needs occasional re-plating to keep it looking bright.

Costs less than platinum.

Platinum:

Natural silvery-white metal.

Used in its pure form, making it hypoallergenic.

Has a cool, silvery shine that doesn't change.

Doesn't need re-plating.

Costs more due to rarity and durability.

Both white gold and platinum have their own advantages, so the choice depends on factors such as budget, personal preference for appearance, and desired level of durability, or how much care you want to put into maintenance.
